Hello! My name is Laura Michelle Davis, and I am a freelance artist working out of the New York City area. I have been drawing ever since I can remember, though my talents have greatly improved over the years. I starting showing my art in high school at the annual Art Shows, then took a break to finish college, getting my Bachelor's degree in English with a writing concentration. Several of my works were published in the college literary journal. I started cosplaying right around the time the Fellowship of the Ring came out in theatres. A good friend of mine, herself an avid sewer, helped me with my first costume, a Galadriel dress and cape. I can remember accidentally sewing both the backs and fronts together of the chiffon sleeves and wondering why one was so tight and the other so loose. Since then I have completed several costumes with great success, including Renaissance and Regency historical pieces. My first masquerade was at Lunacon in March of 2009. There I showed a costume based on Queen Susan's farewell gown in Disney's Prince Caspian, which I will be showing, with some updates, at the masquerade at Anticipation, the 2009 World Science Fiction Convention. At Lunacon, I received the Best in Show for Workmanship, as well as Best Recreation. |
